Electro'n'B Part 2: Ready for the World - Oh Sheila

Here's part two of our week of posting dedicated to the wonderful sounds of electro-meets-RnB from the 80s (a.k.a. glorious summer music).

Some male vocals this time from Ready for the World.

Wamdue Project

New music from Buffetlibre and Sidechains

Buffetlibre just dropped some music into our mailbox and we'd love to share it.

The first is a remix of Cartridge's song The Woods. It's a playful, electropop remix with some happy sounding synth work with a touch of 8-bit in the background.

Grab it:

Next up is a collab of Buffetlibre and fellow spaniards, Sidechains. This track is a lot more housey with a beefed up low-end, and features those familiar vocals from Little Boots.

Coming soon....

I've been having trouble with Zshare and some other sharing sites lately. We've received some great music and mixes in our mailbox and would love to post them.

Once this (my computer?) gets fixed, everything will go up.

Hopefully tomorrow we'll have some music and mixes from Kitch & Sync, Jackamo and a few others.

Weekly MVP and Electro'n'B Post: The Jets - Crush on You

I was listening to SModcast (Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier's podcast) a few days ago and heard this Jets track for the first time. After looking it up on Youtube I stumbled upon an amazing subgenre of music that was quite prevelent in the 80s. I've always loved the cheesy funk from the 80s such as Evelyn 'Champagne' King and D-Train, but this new discovery steps of the cheese.

If you love corny, sugary RnB vocals and classic electro beats, stabs and synths than you're in luck because everyday for the next week I'm going to post a dope electro'n'b track, possibly an accompanying music video and then end the week with a Monday Mixdown dedicated to perhaps the best subgenre of music for the summer.

DL the song here:

Weekly MVP: KRS-One - Outta Here

My favorite music videos aren't full of elaborate dance numbers; they don't use CGI of any sort; they're roughly as long as the original song and they certainly reflect the budget given to the producers.

Most of my favorite music videos are hip hop videos from the late 80s and early 90s.
This is one of them.

*the look on KRS' face at 0:24 is priceless.

It's 'Darkartois' for a reason....

Here's another track from the UK native, Vegas residing Darkartois.

As much as I enjoyed his Queen remix, this track steps everything up a bit; the bass, the dark, murky atmosphere and the overall quality. 'Nightmare' is filled with low end goodness and some gothic sounding orchestral stabs, perfect for the end of the night.

Snag it here:

Weekly MVP: Xzibit - What U See is What U Get

I love this video! I'm sure it wasn't filmed in one shot, but it sure looks like it. Alfonso Cuaron, eat your heart out!

Holy Crud!! A New Monday Mixdown!!

That's right y'all, it's finally here.

I could bore you with all of my excuses......so I will!

Recently I got a new laptop, upgraded to Torq 1.5 (for free!) and bought a new external, USB powered hard drive for DJing purposes. The combination of working the kinks out of Torq 1.5 on a Macbook, re-organizing all of my music and planning to move (in late August) had set me back in terms of mixing for your pleasure.

I had to get all of this finished before July 26th because I'm spinning at an autoshow in Toronto. If there's anyone in the T.O. area, drop by the Subaru Autoshow @ Willowdale Subarau to check out some sweet cars on display, hear good music, maybe buy a couple Imprezas and enjoy some BBQ.

Moving on, this mix is comprised of some bass-heavy house music that I recently acquired. If you want any of the tracks in the playlist, head over to Beatport (mostly) and pick them up.

Tracklist:

Kelevra - Bumpin On Ya Stereo
Rico Tubbs - Hip Rave Anthem
Jak-Z - Get Ya Ass Up
Heavyfeet - Killa
Skeelo - I Wish (Breakdown Remix)
Daniel Merriweather feat. Wale - Change (The Count and Sinden Remix)
Boltan - Nine to Five (Rico Tubb's Speed Garage Remix)
Steve Angello and Laidback Luke - Show Me Love 2009 (AC Slater Remix)

*note* the Count and Sinden track is EQ'd pretty poorly....sorry

Weekly MVP: Ghostface Killa - Daytona 500

I'm glad music labels are allowing music videos from their artists to be posted on Youtube. Some of these companies even have their own channel. It still sucks though when you want to embed something on a blog. Bah. Anyways, this video certainly does not suck. Check it.

Here's some vids I wanted to embed but can't:

Real Life - Send Me an Angel '89
Eric B and Rakim - Follow the Leader
Ice Cube - It Was a Good Day

I saw this shizzle over at Get Weird Turn Pro and have watched it about 40 times now.

Grrrrrrrrrrr.........success!

So I finally got around to recording a Monday Mixdown this weekend, and it was a beaut' too. To my chegrin, I listened to the mix before posting and it sounded terrible! There was a problem with my setup (not to simply blame the equipment), that was creating a skip/doubled sound, especially on the bass hits.
I did some rooting around in message boards, but didn't find a solution. So I went and checked everything I could from cords and stylii to records and software.
Finally I discovered that the problem was only with certain MP3s. In particular, the ones which I had in the 'current Monday Mixdown' folder were corrupted or something. I transferred them from my main computer (PC) to my Macbook via home network. Something must have happened there, because everything else on the Mac was fine...and it had been taken straight from an external HD.
Now that that's settled, I can record a proper mix for next week.

Tubbs Remix

I haven't been paying much attention to the music coming out of Ireland, but I'm going to start.

Splitloop is a dynamic duo from Dublin (see what I did there...) that has a full album coming soon. I'm a big fan of Rico Tubbs, so I was pleased when I heard the great treatment given to his track 'The Party'. It's a lot of fun and a definite dancefloor burner.

Check out their Myspace and grab some more of their music from Beatport.
There you can also find the rest of Tubbs' album 'Knuckle Sandwich' remixed by
various artists.
