New Hervé Remix and Single

I've never been a fan of Prodigy, but I looooove me some Hervé (a.k.a. Joshua Harvey, Action Man, Young Lovers, Speaker Junk, Voodoo Chilli, The Count of Monte Cristal etc. etc.)

The English producer/DJ has a new single dropping on Monday. The title track, 'Baseball Bat', isn't anything of interest to me - it's a hybrid of metal (vocals) and dubstep. However, the supposed B-side (Who Da Champ) is bangin'. I heard the song first on Sinden's We Make It Good mix a long while back. You can preview the song on Hervé's Myspace.

This new remix of Prodigy's track 'Omen', from their new album, is pretty slammin' as well.
Heavy bass drop around 1:30, accompanied by some real heavy, wet synth work.
Cop that shizz below.

More from the good people at Mad Decent.

Hope they release those toys.

Might even pre-order it.

My Name is Potato.

Unrelated fact: I had a math teacher in high school named Mr. Pavone.

Summer Chuuuuunes!

The warm weather is rolling in now, so it's time for some summer jams. I love hot (preferably dry) days when you can hang out outside in just your shorts until 11pm or cruise down the highway with all 4 windows open and the chunes blasting. And lets not forget the BBQs, swimming, beaches, walks, b-ball games etc. etc.

Here are some tracks that really represent the happiest of seasons for me. Some you may want to play while your chillin' out on the patio, others are for pumping in the whip. I've posted a nice blend of hip hop, italo, new wave, caribbean, electro and funk music.

Bring on that heat!

...and some hot dogs with an ice cold Dr. Pepper.

Dominance Crushing Crew - Nothing Stopping Us
Michael Jackson - Working Day and Night (Morsy Mix)
Rick James - Ghetto Life
Time and Love - Tea For Two
The Flirts - Danger
Lime - Guilty
Lime - You're My Magician
A Tribe Called Quest - Jam
Esquivel - Mucha Muchacha
The Roots - Double Trouble
Harry Belafonte - Jump in the Line
Harry Belafonte - Sweetheart from Venezuela
Real Life - Catch Me I'm Falling

Rampage...

I finally got around to listening to Rob Threezy's 'House Broke' mix. Daaaaaaamn! It is a beast of a mix, and well worth the download. I scouted out the tracklist, wanting to cop some new material and discovered Chicago's Rampage. He's associated with Rob Threezy, along with Maddjazz and Charlie Glitch. Make sure to give their Myspace some attention.

Rampage's sound is similar to Threezy's, as it combines Bmore/Philly Club with old school Rave synths and stabs, and some steady house thumps.

You can find most of his releases over at Beatport. I recommend 'Fire' (which is featured on the Rob Threezy mixtape). He's also got a remix of Threezy's new single 'The Chase'.

Weekly MVP: Outhere Brothers Videos

Yeah....so....I totally forgot to post this week's MVP on Monday. Roman's last post with the Outhere Brothers jogged my memory however.

I decided to put up some more Outhere Brothers videos this week. Each video speaks for itself, and the songs are absolute classics. I really think that bass-heavy, early 90s hip-house like Outhere Brothers and Real 2 Reel should be cranked anywhere there's a dancefloor. It's time for a resurrgence and people like Top Billin' and Dave Nada have already gotten involved. But we need more!

Don't Stop (Wiggle Wiggle)

La La La Hey Hey

Ole Ole (*not the drinking/soccer song*)

Found this video on the Outhere Brothers' Youtube channel (they have one?)
Craziness! It reminds me of that old show Graffiti Rock, and how much I miss Electric Circus on MuchMusic.

And just for fun....

Tuck in that jersey!

Before long tees (people don't do that anymore do they?)... people tucked in their extra cloth. Don't be surprised if you see this look coming back:

Sippin on Cam's new pineapple soda

By now you've probably heard Cam'ron's latest, Crime Pays. And you probably know it's far from perfect (a huge step back from his last two outtings). However, some solid moments here, i.e. Spend the night, I hate my job, Silky. Two more things... people still put skits on their albums? Seriously? And wtf with the homemade prosumer camera musicals? Not good things.

Anyways, check out the highlights...

Life? Nah, think about dancing!

Really feeling the new Think About Life album that's coming out next Tuesday. Excited to pick this one up. The Montreal trio's sophmore album is super strong, start to finish. Hopefully this is enough to whet your appetite for their brand of... upbeat disco-funk? Only wanted to share one song, but couldn't settle one any one... even throwing these three up was a stretch. Find this album!

Note: They're gonna be in Toronto this Friday night!

Think about life - Veldt
Think about life - Havin my baby

The Monday Mixdown #6 - New Mixtape Preview

This edition of the Monday Mixdown is a live recording once again. It's a trial run of a new mixtape I am working on. The tracklist isn't final as I'm waiting for some goodies to be released, and some exclusives to arrive.

There are some repeats from previous Monday Mixdown's, but I want this new mixtape to be a combination of party music and the most mainstream stuff I have. Why? It's something I plan on using when trying to get club gigs.

There's a couple mistakes, but you'll only catch them if you listen closely. Nevertheless, this Monday Mixdown should get you dancin'.

Tracklist:
Mullyman - I Go Harder (Than Baltimore)
Pitbull feat. Lil Jon - Crazy
Dave Nada - I Like Culo
Tittsworth feat. The Federation - Drunk as F$#% (Top Billin' Remix)

Mark Ronson feat. Amy Winehouse - Valerie (Count and Sinden Remix)
Young MC - Bust a Move (Don Rimini Ravekid Remix)
Mikix the Cat - Movin' Around
Shake Aletti - The Way He Does (Toddla T Remix)
Toddla T and Hervé feat. Serocee - Shake It

ACDC - Thunderstruck (Tittsworth Remix)

Queen - Fat Bottomed Girls (Dave Nada Remix)

Mullyman Goes Harder

Kevin Muldrow aka Mullyman has been reppin' Batlimore for a minute now, and is co-founder of Major League Unlimited Records.

Of course, I'm always working during the summer and discover these types of things late. I was catching up on First Up's posting and discovered this MC.

His single 'I Go Harder (Than Baltimore)' is produced by none other than Baltimore Club music veteran DJ Booman. The interesting thing is, the track isn't a Bmore Club tune. It's a straight hip hop track that bangs nonetheless. Booman's got the chops.

Grab the track and check the music video below.

Weekly MVP: Aphex Twin - Windowlicker

This week's music video playback is super long, but worth the watch. The music kicks in after about 4 and a half minutes of hilarity. Then, more hilarity ensues.

I'm not a big fan of Aphex Twin, but I love the work of the video's director, Chris Cunningham. Be sure to check out his other work on the Tube.

More Mikix

New remix from Mikix the Cat, who happens to be Da Man!

Thanks to Get Weird Turn Pro for the heads up.

Star Eyes - Disappear (Mikix the Cat Remix)

The Monday Mixdown #5 - Wingin' It

The proposed Baile Funk vs. Dancehall/Bashment mix is taking longer than expected...mostly due to dancehall being way slower than Baile Funk.

In the meantime, I have thrown together some tracks on the fly. They seem to fit together well (except for the MSTRKRFT?).

Roughest mix ever though.

Not really any mistakes, but the crossfades and EQing are lazy and I neglected my array of effects.

Tracklist:
Project Bassline - Drop the Pressure (Jack Beats Rinsed Out Rave Remix)
Young MC - Bust a Move (Don Rimini Ravekid Remix)
Mikix the Cat - Movin' Around
Chelley vs. Mr Oizo - I Took the Night/Flat Beat (Ayres Mashup)
DJ Kue - Fuk it Up
MSTRKRFT feat. NORE - Bounce
Rico Tubbs - Boom Riddim (Sharkslayer Remix)
Thunderheist - Sweet 16 (Mansion Remix)
Tigerstyle - Baile Shava (Sinden Remix)
Shake Aletti - The Way He Does (Toddla T Remix)

Baile Funk vs. Dancehall/Bashment

Should be up tomorrow.
Me soooo tired.

Weekly MVP: The Whooliganz - Put Your Handz Up

That's right, Scott Caan was in a rap group when he was a youngin'. His partner in rhyme is a very young 'The Alchemist', the producer known for working with MCs like Mobb Deep and Dilated Peoples.

The Whooliganz were part of the Soul Assasins crew, fronted by Cypress Hill and House of Pain (you can hear the influence in the track). Speaking of Soul Assassins, remeber this shit? Gaaaaaaangsta! One of my favorite beats of all time.
